May 23, 2022

On May 23rd, one year ago, we’d "launched". All dates are arbitrary, and especially so for an early stage dream like ours, but this was the day when we’d done an AMA on r/degoogle. So today is like a birthday, of sorts.

Blowing out the candles and tasting the cake, we look back at some of the features we added last year:

  • Family plans for subscriptions
  • Publicly shareable album URLs
  • Data import from Google Photos
  • Desktop app
  • Image editor on mobile
  • Option to deduplicate files
  • Two-factor authentication
  • Option to free up space by deleting backed up photos
  • Background uploads on iOS
  • Ability to move files
  • Ability to archive files and folders
  • EXIF data viewer
  • PayPal support
  • Option to change email address
  • Ability to view and terminate active sessions
  • Easy local-sync/data-export flow
  • Ability to edit creation time
  • 2TB storage plan
  • Recovery code to mitigate the risks of a forgotten passphrase
  • Option to trash and recover trashed files
  • Option to download multiple files on the web
  • Option to sort albums alphabetically
  • Detailed usage screen
  • HEIC support
  • Live photos support
  • Password protected album links
  • Auto-destructing album links
  • Option to disable downloads within shared links
  • F-Droid release

These are just the features that you, our users, requested on our roadmap and we were able to deliver. Behind the scenes there is a lot more that happened, and we’ve also grown as a team, but that’s a story for another day.

Thank you for choosing Ente and being a part of this journey, to a place where safe and secure photo storage is the norm ❤️
